RECORD OF THE MONTH

Smashing Pumpkins – Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (30th Anniversary Box Set)
The 30th anniversary box set treats Mellon Collie like the era-defining monument it is. The remastered album sounds richer and more dynamic without sanding down its raw emotional swings—from the metallic fury of “Zero” to the fragile ache of “1979.” Bonus material (demos, outtakes, and live tracks) adds real insight into the band’s obsessive mid-’90s creative peak rather than feeling like filler. Lavish packaging and liner notes underline the album’s mythic status, even if the sheer scale makes it feel more archival than casual. For longtime fans, it’s a rewarding deep dive; for newcomers, a reminder of how maximalist, messy, and brilliant alternative rock once dared to be.
LAST MONTH
Cold Fact is the brilliant debut album from Detroit's singer-songwriter Rodriguez. Born 1942 in the USA, his career had little success in the US but he found success in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, mostly unbeknown to himself.
Rodriguez's story is an interesting one. For years it was incorrectly rumoured that he had died, but in the late 90s, a group of avid fans in South Africa managed to contact him and find him alive and well in Detroit. That journey was told in the award-winning documentary 'Searching For The Sugar-Man' which helped give him the long-overdue recognition (we've got the soundtrack LP available in store too by the way). If you've seen the film, you know just how...
