MAY

Rodriguez
Cold Fact

(1971, Rare Sussex A&M, First UK Pressing)

Cold Fact is the brilliant debut album from Detroit's singer-songwriter Rodriguez. Born 1942 in the USA, his career had little success in the US but he found success in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, mostly unbeknown to himself.

Rodriguez's story is an interesting one. For years it was incorrectly rumoured that he had died, but in the late 90s, a group of avid fans in South Africa managed to contact him and find him alive and well in Detroit. That journey was told in the award-winning documentary 'Searching For The Sugar-Man' which helped give him the long-overdue recognition (we've got the soundtrack LP available in store too by the way). If you've seen the film, you know just how powerful this album's legacy is. It's a must have for anyone who loves a hidden gem with a wild story.

Standout track for me? Sugar-Man. Its haunting, catchy and totally unforgettable. The 1st UK Pressing on A&M is a rare find, especially in good condition. It's a great example of a record that only got better with time. The lyrics are raw, political and poetic.

The Smashing Pumpkins, Siamese Dream

APRIL

The Smashing Pumpkins
Siamese Dream

(1993, First U.S Pressing)

For April’s Record of the Month, we’re going with an alternative rock essential – Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins. And not just any pressing, but the highly sought-after first U.S pressing on purple/maroon marbled vinyl from Caroline Records.

Released in 1993, Siamese Dream was a game-changer for the band, blending heavy, layered guitar solos with thoughtful lyrics. The album was a massive success, 4x platinum and 2 grammy nominations, solidifying The Smashing Pumpkins as one of the defining bands of the ‘90s.

Standout tracks in my opinion: Today, Disarm and Mayonaise. This pressing is something special. This purple marbled vinyl is the very first U.S pressing with the other colours coming afterwards. Absolutely gorgeous and a must have for collectors.

MARCH

Rush
Roll The Bones

(2025 Remastered)

With the newly remastered version just released, it's only right to feature Roll The Bones as our very first Record Of The Month! Originally released in 1991 as Rush's 14th studio album, it reached No.3 in the US, No.10 in the UK, and No.11 in Canada. The album also won an award for Best Album Design and showcases the continuing development of the bands sound.

From a lyrical perspective, Roll The Bones has a darker feel, tackling themes of chance and/or fate. It also features one of their more controversial chapters of Rush's music history - the rap section in the middle of the title track.

Standout tracks in my opinion: Bravado, Roll The Bones, Ghost Of A Chance, and Neurotica
